Optometry Assistant Volunteer Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Optometry Assistant at Grace Clinics of Ohio supports the optometrist in providing essential eye care services to underserved patients. This role involves assisting with patient exams, preparing equipment, managing patient flow, and providing patient education on eye care. The Optometry Assistant plays a key role in ensuring smooth clinic operations and enhancing the patient experience.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Patient Assistance: Greet and prepare patients for eye exams, including obtaining medical histories and ensuring patients are comfortable.
- Equipment Preparation: Set up and maintain optometry equipment, ensuring it is clean and ready for use.
- Assist During Exams: Support the optometrist during eye exams by handing instruments, performing preliminary tests* (training available), and documenting findings.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate patient records, including exam results, treatments, and prescribed corrective lenses.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma (required); optometry assistant training or certification (preferred).
- Knowledge of basic optometry practices, medical terminology, and patient care procedures. (preferred)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work with diverse patient populations.
- Attention to detail and ability to handle sensitive patient information.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
