Optometrist Volunteer Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW 

The Optometrist at Grace Clinics of Ohio provides essential eye care services to underserved patients. This role involves conducting eye exams, diagnosing vision conditions, prescribing corrective lenses, and offering preventive eye care. The Optometrist plays a key role in improving eye health and quality of life for individuals who may have limited access to regular eye care. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Eye Examinations: Perform comprehensive eye exams to assess vision and eye health, diagnosing conditions such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, glaucoma, and other eye diseases. 
  • Prescribe Corrective Lenses: Prescribe eyeglasses based on exam results and patient needs. 
  • Diagnosis and Treatment: Identify and treat common eye conditions, such as dry eyes, infections, and allergies. Provide referrals to specialists if needed. 
  • Patient Education: Educate patients on proper eye care, hygiene, and preventive measures to maintain optimal eye health. 
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate patient records, including exam results, diagnoses, and treatment plans. 
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other healthcare providers at the clinic to ensure holistic care for patients. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited institution. 
  • Valid state licensure to practice optometry. 
  • Strong knowledge of vision care, eye diseases, and medical terminology. 
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and compassionate manner. 
  • Ability to work with diverse patient populations, including those with limited access to healthcare.
